The Cathedral Guild of Change Ringers

The bells are rung regularly each Sunday morning between 10-11:00 am and for practice on Monday evenings between 6:00 and 9:00 pm. They are rung by members of the St. James' Cathedral Guild of Change Ringers. The Guild numbers approximately 25 persons of all ages.

The Guild's officers are:

  • Tower Captain: Robin Clarke
  • Deputy Tower Captain: Madeleine Cheesman
  • Ringing Master: David Hawkins
  • Secretary: Judith Hunt
  • Treasurer: Chris Ruch
  • Steeple Keeper: Michael Hinton
  • Archivist: Ruth Smith
  • Librarian: Sue Sawyer
We frequently welcome ringing visitors from around the world. On two or three occasions each year, well known 12 bell ringing bands will visit to ring a "Peal". A peal is continuous ringing of 5000 changes or more and takes approximately 3 hrs 15 mins on our bells. Generally these occasions will be publicized as the ringing is of excellent quality and music.
